Jersey City ready to spend $110K more in legal fees for 2015 police whistleblower lawsuit

Jersey City is adding $110,000 to the astronomical legal bills it has amassed fighting a 9-year-old federal whistleblower lawsuit filed by a deputy police chief and a retired police captain.
The city council will be asked Wednesday night to approve an additional $70,000 to the Apruzzese, McDermott, Mastro and Murphy law firm to represent former Sgt. Robert Sjosward; and an additional $50,000 to the Bratti Greenan law firm to represent former Police Chief Phil Zacche in the lawsuit filed Deputy Police Chief Kelly Chesler and retired Capt. Joseph Ascolese.
The $70,000 for Sjosward brings his legal defense total to $400,000, including $160,000 this year; while the $50,000 for Zacche brings his total to $250,000.
